Gallow Springs, a frontier town standing at the fringes of Midland civilization, emerges before my weary eyes as a testament to the indomitable spirits and captivating history that breathe life into its vibrant streets. Nestled within the untamed lands of what is now the Dethelm Frontier, this frontier town bears the scars and echoes of past conflicts that have shaped its very existence. Every drop of blood spilled upon its soil has become an indelible mark upon its fabric. Here, on the outer reaches of conventional law and order, Gallow Springs stands as an embodiment of freedom and autonomy. It is a sanctuary where frontier justice reigns supreme and the rules are etched in the unwritten laws of this untamed land.
The Humble Beginnings of Gallow Springs
Founded in the year 113 A.H. by the Gallow Family, the once humble tent city was first pitched beyond the previous borders of the Midland Plains in the northern Cascan Territories. From what I’ve heard, the family was one of the only settler groups to travel beyond the Midland Plains and stake their claim upon the foreign land. They originated from a group of country folk that build on and live off of the Midland Plains, still known by most as Plainers. The Gallows have since held Mayor’s seat for three generation and survived countless raids, bandits, and even the War of Expansion in recent decades. Today, the once modest encampment has evolved into a bustling brick-and-mortar town, with the Gallow family holding sway as prominent shareholders in its myriad of businesses.
Bustling Shops and Colorful Characters
Within Gallow Springs, I’ve found bustling shops that serve as vibrant hubs of trade and activity. Things don’t change much day-to-day in this small town, so all passersby make sure to get to know the shopkeepers. Not just in Gallow Springs but throughout all of Midland, shopkeepers are reputable individuals who help shape the economy and sell the wares made by the hardworking hands of Midland Citizens. Melissa "Ms. Bee" Zinn’s Saloon, Miss Bee’s Haven, offers stiff drinks and welcomes rough Riders from near and far. Strap "Hmphry" Gatman, owner of Gatman Gunsmith & Co., keeps stock of dozens of Common, Rare, and Legendary Weapons. Rita "Mercy" LaRoux manages the bustling Trading Post known as Rita's Outpost and buys and sells Resources and heads of various local Enemies. Mirth "Mouf" Graymane oversees the Stables, aptly named Mirth's Mounts, and reluctantly sells his stock of Mounts. The venerable Town Hall, presided over by Mayor Francis Gallow III, proudly carries the name Gallow Hall. Stacey Coltrane manages the lively Gallow Springs Train Station, facilitating the ebb and flow of Travelers from other cities. Alfred "Al" Goodwin ensures the smooth operation of the Bank, a branch of the Bank of Midland, and offers Bank Notes that allow folks to save their cash. Upholding the fading light of Midland law in the frontier, Sheriff Lurch Armstrong maintains order from his office in the County Jail. Last, but certainly not least for the hardy and combative citizens of Midland, Dr. Charles Barber, M.D. skillfully leads Dr. Barber's Surgical Emporium, a place of healing and respite.
Frontier Wealth and Perils
Yet, beyond the spirited inhabitants, Gallow Springs owes much of its renown to the bountiful resources that flow through its very veins. Situated at the convergence of four distinct yet equally lucrative biomes, the town is a tap into frontier wealth and opportunity. As alluring as the land that stretches beyond town may be, I’ve noticed that the average Citizen seldom ventures beyond the protective embrace of the town. The lands surrounding Gallow Springs are rife with unsavory characters and formidable beasts, demanding a rare combination of Vigor, Skills, Weapons, Items, and Grit to tread upon its uncharted territories. It is a realm where only the most indomitable and lethal can thrive, navigating treacherous terrains and confronting the untamed Predators, Gunmen, and Wolfsbane cultists who call this frontier their home. To venture forth into these uncharted lands demands constant vigilance against the elements and an unwavering awareness of the ever-present threat that lurks at every turn. One misstep could mean the difference between life and the solemn journey to Nil, the realm that lies beyond.
A Captivating Microcosm of Freedom and Danger
With its storied history, resilient spirit, and the stark dichotomy between the safety of its lantern-lit roads and the perils of its untamed surroundings, Gallow Springs stands as a captivating microcosm of the wild frontier. It encapsulates the duality of freedom and danger, beckoning individuals with its promises of adventure and the chance to etch their destiny upon the silver-veined stone of this lawless realm. Whether seeking refuge within the lively embrace of the bustling Saloon or embodying the Skills and Endeavors necessary to conquer the wild, Gallow Springs remains a place where the echoes of the past reverberate through the land and the free spirit of the frontier thrives.
